Art in the Park: A Picnic to Remember at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UI

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan (UI) transformed into a lively hub of creativity, laughter, and bonding. The event, dubbed “Art in the Park”, was hosted by AVMS UI and brought together veterinary students from UI and FUNAAB for an unforgettable picnic filled with painting, games, dancing, food, and of course, plenty of opportunities to connect.

Before the picnic kicked off, the day began with a friendly football match between AVMS UI and AVMS FUNAAB, setting the tone for friendly competition and camaraderie. The match was filled with excitement, energy, and impressive footwork. After a thrilling 60 minutes, AVMS FUNAAB emerged victorious with a 1-0 win. There was heavy banter as the two teams congratulated each other on a well-played match. The friendly rivalry added an extra layer of fun to the day, with both teams looking forward to the picnic that would follow.

Painting, Laughter, and Creativity

Once the final whistle blew, the students made their way to the park, where colorful souvenirs and art supplies awaited them. The highlight of the event was the painting session, where participants had the chance to express their artistic side. Armed with paintbrushes, students set out to create masterpieces on various souvenirs such as bottles, mugs and tote bags.

For many, it was an opportunity to reconnect with their creative selves, often overshadowed by the demanding nature of veterinary studies. Between strokes of paint and bursts of laughter, it was clear that everybody enjoyed every moment, embracing the lighter side of their hard work. After all, who says vets can’t be artists?

Food, Drinks, and Games Galore

No picnic is complete without food, and this one had it in abundance. Platters of tasty appetizers and desserts kept everyone munching and mingling. Concessions were in abundance—whether it was an ice cream or fresh popcorn, there was something for everyone.

While their creative juices flowed during the painting session, the students competitive spirits were ignited during the games. From table tennis to board games to video games, the picnic turned into a mini sports carnival. The games provided plenty of moments for friendly rivalry, with students from UI and FUNAAB battling it out, all in good fun.

Dance, Music, and Unforgettable Moments

As the sun began to set, the rhythm of music filled the air, and the dance floor came alive. With beats from various genres playing, everyone was quick to show off their best dance moves. From the classic "moro" to some energetic breakdancing, it was clear that the event wasn't just about academic achievement but also about celebrating life, friendship, and the joy of being young. The sound of laughter, the shuffle of feet, and the chatter of friends old and new blended together, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. It was a moment where veterinary students let go of the textbooks, where they forgot about the stress of exams, and simply enjoyed the magic of the moment.

Bridging Schools, Building Friendships

The true success of “Art in the Park” was in the way it brought together students from different institutions. Vet med students from UI and FUNAAB mingled freely, exchanging ideas, experiences, and even a few “vet jokes.”

In the end, the event was a reminder that no matter where you study or what your course is, the bonds of friendship and shared experiences can make any day unforgettable. “Art in the Park” wasn’t just a picnic—it was a celebration of the veterinary spirit, of community, and of the joy of coming together to create, laugh, and live life to the fullest.

As the evening wound down, students left the park with new friendships, creative memories, and, for some, a fresh new passion for art. It was a picnic that proved that, even in the world of veterinary medicine, there’s always room for fun.
